Chaeng Temple

Chaeng Temple is an ancient temple in Prachin Buri, as well as a highly respected temple of the locals. Luang Por Phet, the sacred buddha statue of Prachin Buru, is situated in this temple. Additionally, the incorruptible body of Luang Por Tad, the former abbot, is also kept in Chaeng Temple. Moreover, the area where Chaeng Temple is located is believed to be a place where Chao Praya Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) found an ancient Buddha image on his trip back from the war in the past. He then built a temple on the edge of the field and invited Laung Por Phet and enshrined it in the newly built Chaeng Temple. Luang Por Phet’s name came from its eyes that are made of two big beautiful real diamonds, as big as an actual pupil. This Buddha image is in the attitude of subduing Mara. It is believed to be sacred and is highly respected by the people. Currently, this Buddha image is situated in Luang Por Phet Vihara, which is a beautiful architecture in Chiang Saen style.

Additionally, the story of Laung Por Prasitseuksakorn, the former abbot of Chaeng Temple, is also famous. He died in 1997, but his body does not decompose through time. Hence, his body is placed in a glass coffin, which is next to Luang Por Phet Buddha image in Luang Por Tad Vihara, allowing people to pay their respect.

Another highlight of Chaeng Temple is Phra That Wat Chaeng that was built in the middle of the pond. The outstanding shape of the building was imitated from Phra That Phanom. The Buddha’ relics are kept in the building, which is open for visitors to pay their respect.
