Thao U-thong Temple was built in 1457 by a group of people who escaped an outbreak disease from Suphan Buri. As King Ramathibodi I or Phra Chao U-Thong had donated a lot of his personal funds in order to build this temple, the people named it after him in his honor. In Thao U-thong Temple, there is another important archaeological site, Mondop Wat Thao U-Thong. It is a square building similar to those of western arts. Four Buddha Patimakorn are situated inside, the beautiful and outstanding U-Thong-style Buddha sculptures are in a seated position with their backs on one another's backs. There is also a Takian Tree, which is a symbol of the temple. Nowadays, the tree becomes a sacred tree and people holds an annual event to worship the tree and change the cloth the used to wrap around it on the15th day of the 5th waxing moon. This Sacred Takian Tree is also one of the trees in the trees of Siam project, the treasures of the land. The project was launched to honor HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2018.

          Not far from the temple is Nong Cha-Om Fruit Market, the famous fruit market in Prachin Buri. Visitors come to select and choose a variety of seasonal fruits from this market throughout the year. Bamboo shoot, both fresh and pickled, is one of the well-known souvenirs of Prachin Buri.
